Western Film and Culture PowerPoint Presentation
Reflection
To be quite honest powerpoints and presenting are not my strong suit. I typically put too much on each slide, and when I am presenting I get stage fright and forget the things that I am going to say. Fortunately for me this time went a lot smoother for me. I would like to believe that it has to do with my interest in what I was researching. Growing up I loved Westerns and would watch them all the time with my Grandpa, so I felt as though I already knew a lot of informormation going into this. I also knew that westerns were very inaccurate when it came to both cowboys and Native Americans, so my group and I decided that we wanted to shine a light on this. We wanted to give information about how a genre so engrained into our culture has really made us unaware of the true Native and cowboy. I was tasked in our group with making the introduction. At first I thought this would be easy, but when it came time to format and put my information into the power point it became a little bit harder. At first I didn't really know what order I wanted my slides in, and I started to cram too much information into the actual slides. I kept checking myself and deleting unneccesary information. After making my powerpoint I practiced presenting over and over again. I even made myself flashcards to keep me on track and help remember information. When it came time to present it went smoothly. I would say that this powerpoint was a real eye opener. Reading my group mates information shocked me how there were a lot of minority cowboys, and how truly peaceful Native Americans were. It's unfortunate how little our society knows about it as well. Overall this powerpoint helped me to grow and become better at giving presentations. This will help me down the line in other classes, and possiblly when looking for a job.
