Final Presentation
Reflection
When it was first announced that we were doing a final presentation, and that it could be on anything as long as we could tie it in with the class I was worried. I wasn't worried about presenting, but it was the freedom to choose our topic, I couldn't for the life of me think of anything to do for a project. I was starting to panick, then that night I was on social media. An art piece by Banksy was shared to me by one of my friends, the piece they shared was of a man ripping out a plant for the news. I knew of Banksy before hand, I had always liked his style of art and his commentary on life. It was at this time that I came to the realization that Banksy would be a perfect person to do a presentation on. His social and political commentary easily fit into two different subjects. This first being Freedom, Responsibility, and Justice, and the second being Human Rights and Global Justice. I must admit that at first it was hard to decide on what pieces of his art I would do, he has so many to choose from so I decided to stick with more current events and things that we had talked about in class such as human rights. One thing I enjoyed about this was being able to learn a lot of information on Banksy's art and was also able to just enjoy his art as well. His dark humor along with his satire blend perfectly with anti-establishment graffiti. One thing that I did get from this was how big of a role art can have in expressing the voices of the unheard. It is a weapon that can be used to make a big impact, Banksy knows this and uses it to spread awareness on social issues that the majority doesn't talk about.
